La440 is designed to work without collecting anything: the sound from your microphone stays on your device, and so do your settings.
Microphone audio
Sound picked up by the microphone is analyzed in memory, directly on your device, to work out its pitch. It is never recorded, never sent to a server and never shared with anyone. No audio file is created, including during the pitch exercises.
The microphone is only requested when you tap the button that starts it. It switches off automatically when the app goes to the background, and after 3 minutes without sound.
Your settings and results
Your settings, custom tunings, saved tempos and exercise results are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device.
To delete everything, use the “Clear all my data” button in the settings. Clearing the site data from your browser has the same effect.
What La440 does not use
- No account or sign-up.
- No cookies.
- No trackers or analytics tools.
- No advertising.
- No fonts or scripts loaded from third-party services.
The web server
To display the app, your browser downloads its files from our server. Like any web server, it keeps standard technical logs: IP address, date, requested file and browser. They are used to keep the service running and secure, and contain no audio data. Once the app is installed, it works offline.

Frequently asked questions
Does La440 record what I play or sing?
No. Sound is analyzed in memory on your device and then discarded; it is never recorded or transmitted.
Why does the app ask for microphone access?
To measure the pitch of the notes you play. Access is only requested when you start the tuner or an exercise.
How do I delete my data?
In the settings, tap “Clear all my data”. Your settings, tunings, tempos and results are then deleted from the device.
